I doubt any region is going to let you buy a certain number of slots unless it includes the consideration that the drivers must be qualified. So unless you buy out all the rookie level slots, they are going to want to approve where people run. Some regions are very restrictive on whom they let in what run group. For example, while I instruct, if I go to another track, the local chapter might not allow me to instruct since they don't know me, and I don't know the track.

Stan is correct. Kind of the way you would want to handle it is to just let all the 928 track/DE guys know that you have targeted a particular event as a 928 GTG at the track... Those who want to DE would need to sign up as per normal with that PCA region (they might want to join the PCA as consideration is given to Region members, then PCA members, and then public at large) and let the PCA DE folks figure out where everyone "goes" so to speak. Then you would probably want to just have a designated area at the track for all the 928's to park and then at lunch maybe get special consideration from the PCA region for pics (on track) and maybe some parade laps (not all 928ers in attendance will probably want to drive the DE). Have lunch together as a group and enjoy the day/weekend.

Once you get a handle on how many might be there it would be good to alert the organizers just to let them know and get them thinking about a parking area and the thought about pics/parade laps...

The Potomac Region frequents Summit Point in W Va. Shenandoah (where I am) as well as 1st Settlers, uses VIR often. There is also a track in PA near Pittsburgh (Beaver Run I think) that has been the scene of some Porsche PCA events as well. Unfortunately the NEast is a little too far for me. I joined the PCA so I could basically attend any regions events I want.
Luckily the Annual Shark Frenzy happens in No. Va. and I go to N.C. to visit relatives where SITM is. So far it is working out ok this way. But I agree that it would be great to have a 928 centric (or at least a 8-10 maybe) Sharks at a DE/track day. I am hoping to fit one in at VIR (I love that place) in October, but if not for sure next year.

Hey Stan , James, Ed and Michael,

Here is my take on this enormously interesting idea.

I am a 5 year member of PCA Potomac..3 years at 928 OC
organizer of the famous 'Sharks in the Suburbs' this year....tic
Frenzy 16 comittee member...

I spent all of 2010 tracking a 1991 964 C2 at DE's at Summit Point and VIR
That was then...this is now...have been working on a '88 S4 5 speed so we
can continue track days with a 928 in this region...long project...

My proposal is this: SCCA has DE events they call PDX, either one or two days at a track combined with their time trials...you sign up and join SCCA for the event and an instructor is included. The event is run by SCCA and is basically an event open to all...there was a Dodge Neon at one event in 2010.
I signed up just to get some track time at my home track...alot less pressure about the whole Porsche thing at this type of event...those air cooled types are quite vocal about anything water cooled and front engine...that could come later....

My plan was to get the car ready and shake it out at an SCCA PDX event at least twice or two days before I got some GT3 Black/ Red group instructor giving me shit about 928's....Yes, this is what happens....Tech Inspector once told me he would rather have a Mustang.....!

Summit Point is fairly well central to the entire region 15 miles from I-81, 70 miles from DC, 2 hours from Pittsburgh, and it is not a professional track, like VIR, Mid Ohio,...much less formal and very well managed by a company that does combat driver instruction for the FBI, CIA, State, etc...... www.summitpointraceway.com

Prolly not this year, but next year, a group of 928 guys could sign up for a PDX at the earliest possible moment when registration opens and fill up the instructed groups right away with 928's.

We could have access to the main track at SP and be able to run with each other for 4 sessions per day at about 20 min each...makes for about 4 hours of track time in two days.

Cost is around 300+ for the two day event plus event insurance..about 150
Best Western in Winchester is $65 per night about 25 min away....
Tech inspection for SCCA can be done by lots of authorized shops within 2 weeks of the event. SCCA website has all the info. www.scca.com
So we are talking $500.00 for the weekend each to get 10-15 928's up on a track together for a weekend.

Later on we can do a PCA DE en masse and mess with some Boxsters :D:D:D

I will be happy to begin to set this up for next spring.

Let me know,
Cheers, Kevin.....everyone signed up for Frenzy 16 Oct 5-6...? www.frenzy.org

That is UNREAL! What a bunch of idiots! We have never had crap like that at our DE and PCA stuff down here in Central TX! UGH!

Love the event idea and look forward to reading more about it!

Kevin, Thanks for your enthusiasm about this topic! And i welcome any help in putting something like this together. How about being able to coordinate this type of event with Frenzy or SITM etc. as 928 people are already cheduling time off to make these types of events and it would guarantee a large 928 turn out!
I can see that this is going to take alot or coordination with alot of different organizations and people to pull it off, but I think it is very much worth it and will be a HUGE plus for the 928 itself and the club once owners get a taste of what these cars can really do even if they only come to watch!
