Wanted Big Brakes

My S4 stops better than my GTS's for some reason... Could be the 33bar brake bias bar that is installed but I am not positive about that.

You will need new spindles or something like that to go from the early brakes to S4 brakes. There is much more involved that just switching out a caliper and a rotor regardless. I would recommend you call 928 Intl and ask them what all is needed and then get it all for 1/2 price and BE HAPPY!

The "big" Corvette calipers aren't the same as the ones that Porsche use. They're PBRs and not as good as the Brembos that we're talking about on the later 928. They may be six piston fronts and four in the rear, but they really aren't as good as they could be. The monster Brembos off the ZR1 are a whole different ballgame however.

I'm pretty sure that they won't fit either. Mounting locations aren't the same for one...

AFAIK the only cars that need the spindle change are the "S" models. They need to change to the "early" spindle. Of course, you could just buy Ed's adapters to keep running the S spindle/suspension and run Cayenne rotors! But, he's already got the early spindles!

Thanks for the info. Along with the calipers My research on the different forums and Vendor sites has yielded a parts list:
front and rear calipers
front and rear rotors
front flexible brake hoses (updated configuration to match caliper)
new OE style rear flexible brake hoses
dust shields front and rear
front steel lower ball joint update to clear rotors (and for safety)
front caliper adapters and correct length bolts
rear caliper spacers/shims and bolts
possible bias bar/proportioning valve upgrade

the biggest components missing from your list are the brake pads themselves....type and manufacturer.

the bias valve changed over the years.........James discusses the 33 valve which was OEM until the 18 was fitted in the S4 and GTS models. The higher the number the more pressure is applied to the rear system.

malcolm, thanks and yes to brake pads and no I haven't narrowed down to a specific pad as of yet. I still have some time as I intend on accumalating all the known components before I start the upgrade. ndfrspd
