I drove around trying to get it tuned a little better and then I stopped to adjust some settings, so I put it in park.
When I went to pull away the shifter had no resistance. pulled the boot off and checked incase the clip fell off but it was ok and the cable moved with the shifter.
I had to climb under the back and push the lever 3 clicks forward, restart in gear and drive home. Its not looking like a great year.

No big deal there, Brad. The linkage is simple to replace. You'll need to drop the exhaust at the rear and remove a couple of heat shield to get the linkage free from the selector at the transmission. Or, at least, I need to since I have large hands. Inside the car, you need to loosen the shifter mechanism from the body to be able to pull it up high enough to get the clearance you need to remove the circlip and detach the linkage.

man i hear my shifter squeak for new bushings and i cringe! i cant imagine how it would be to have something bigger happen to the tranny. i did get the linkage dislocated once and it wasn't fun driving in second gear to the mechanic. but that's water under the bridge. i was just glad it wasn't the tranny giving me trouble... not yet.
