I was looking at the Fender roller and because my rear fender is very straight/level, I think it may be difficult to roll my fender with the tool.

I would not think that it is an issue to ship other then the cost.
It may cost close to $100 to ship it both ways.

I considered the broom handle before we got the tool but I don't like the idea of a permeant change to my car.

I am not sure why yours would be any different than Gary's....
I did my race car, before I flared the fenders, with a softball bat. If you have great paint, I would think it would be distressing to wonder if the paint was going to crack or not (it did not in my case).
