Starting Issue: Need Help

If you do get it started again, check the timing again. If is different than last time the pressed ring on your fly wheel is slipping so your timing will keep changing. I chased the same problem for a year and the list of parts that I bought before finding this was as long as my arm.
You might have to play with your timing just to get it started again.

Adjusting timing is done via the bolt on the distributor, yes?

That was the case on my '80 Euro/ROW S. I suspect if you have a distributor with a shaft in your '84 then it is the same. Is yours a US or ROW?

I have a US 84S. Shouldn't the fact that the car idles smooth for the minute it does stay on mean the timing is ok?

I am only guessing, but if it is smooth, then perhaps the timing is correct at that time, but as the car warms up or connections get vibrated, etc. the timing could be affected.

I haven't been following the thread, there are better mechanics usually watching this forum, than I will ever be. I am just a very experienced hack
