alternator low voltage while running was created by mavche
My 1983 928 just began to indicate a problem, which appears to be a low voltage reading (10-12 V) while the engine is running. What are the most likely reasons for this? I've never had a problem during the past 28 years.

Could be a number of things.
1. Loose connection at alternator
2. Bad earthing of alternator
3. Alternator starting to fail due to age

Did you try pressing the corner of the instrument cluster where the gauge is as they circuit board is known to crack on some models.
