928 porsche CONVERTIBLE parts car or rebuild

You're right. I'd love to have someone rebuild it rather than part out. It's just such a damn shame what happened to it. It was so special and I got comments all the time.

I would like some offers. Definitely would take some bucks to restore to its original glory but it really shouldn't be junked. The frame was reinforced when it was converted and the engine, drive train, exhaust, transmission are all good as far as I know. The interior is in about the same shape as the exterior.

I'll find a photo of it in its heyday.

The perfect answer for this car is a wrecked car with good interior for cheap money and switch the interiors over... If the wreck were in the right places you might could use the front bumper cover from the wreck on this car. The red paints come back surprisingly well even when you don't think they can make it.

Five years sitting is frankly not all that much! BLU82 sat MUCH longer than that and is a GREAT runner now, so if in fact the drive train were solid when parked the car might not be a total fiasco to restore for the right person.

Stan you are quite correct that a conversion would indeed cost more than restoring this car.

So, if a rebuild is less expensive than a conversion, does someone want to make an offer??

You don't *need* a '79, as essentially any 928 interior will work. The mechanical components change throughout the years, but best to leave those intact if they are functional. The body really needs to be redone, and it is probably less expensive to fix what you have, then buy another car and swap parts, since it would still need to be painted. Of course you aren't going to find a top for yours, it will have to be custom made.

In labor and parts, I would suspect your car is $10k away from being a nice car, and whether it is worth $10k at that point is questionable.

My bet is that the buyer you find will not be looking at the dollar cost, but rather at the uniqueness of having a 928 cab.

No telling what a conversion would cost... You could come up with a decent interior from 928 International for probably reasonable money and that would be easier than trying to find a parts car that still has a good interior that you would then have to strip out and then be left with a parts car hulk sitting around.

Just getting the interior good and the top done will not be cheap, but it is doable. All (and I mean ALLLLL!) fluids MUST BE CHANGED and then if the car is running right a good detailer and $500 will probably get your paint looking decent...or at least presentable.

The car as it sits is probably not worth $2500...and that is assuming the engine and drive train are actually good. The top replacement is probably going to cost $3000 if it cost a penny (because it is going to have to be custom hand stitched...though at least you already have the old top as a pattern!) and the new interior switch out will likely cost $2500 for a very good used interior (and that should be nearly every part of the interior).

I would say if the car was looking very, very nice and running properly it might be worth $13k to the right person...maybe! Probably more like $10k and you can see just my guesstimate puts the out of pocket at $10k and that is if nothing else is wrong with the car. If it were a EURO S or a widebody conversion it would be worth more. '79's are not all that special really.

I hope to see this car back on the road and brought back to its glory days! They are to rare to junk!
