Drivers Side Door Handle Hinge replacement

Today is a sad day.

Closed my car door after a spirited drive to work, tunes blasting and all. Unfortunantly, I closed the door on the buckel of the seat belt. I tried to open the door from the outside with no avail. I tugged and all. Eventually I Dukes of Hazard my way into the drivers seat from the passanger side and was able to easily open the door from the inside latch mechanism.

I am presuming it is the hinge that has broken. The door opens and closes fine, locks and everything. Only issue that remains is you can not open the door from the outside.

Anyone replace the Door Handle Hinge before? I have done the window transmission several years ago so I can get the door panel off without too much hassle.

Looking for advise.

I understand the door handles do break fairly often. Mine was just replaced by the PO when I bought the car so no personal experience. I have seen some posts with expletives so it may not be the easiest job...

Its another rite of passage with the 928.

The part that breaks is cast and the only way to do is dismantling the door from the inside, operating the window up and down to get at respective nuts and bolts as well as the theft prevention plate.

There should be a write up somewhere.....brb.

This job is kind of a pain. You have to take the door panel off to do it. There isn't much room to work with but you'll easily see what the problem is once you're in there.

Found a procedure on 928 tips. www.nichols.nu/tip378.htm

Any additional tips would be awesome.

Thanks.

The job took about 3.5 hours to complete. My fingers are raw from reaching in such tight spaces. There are some tricks once you get the anti theft plate removed.

I also had a hard time during reassebly when lining up the bolt that holds the theft sheild in place with a safety cross bar in the door.

Posting picture of broken latch so all can see what you are getting into when you do it.
