87 s4 no start

now i need to check the belt tension i was told. 

Any guidance or advice?

Welcome to the club.

I'm pleased to hear that you found the no-start problem, you did a good diagnostic job ... totally plugged fuel injectors aren't a normal problem.

Have you changed out the fuel filter?  It is located at the rear under a metal cover.  There also either an in-tank fuel pump (mostly early CIS cars and later GT/GTS) or an in-tank fuel screen.  With age, that in-tank screen can break apart and the fuel pump can suck in large enough chunks to cause problems ... the large fuel filter is post fuel pump so it doesn't catch those particles.  The in-tank fuel pump can fail due to a broke hose that connects the metal collar and the pump itself.  The in-tank pumps are very expensive if they can be located.  I have photo documentation on that repair.

Extreme care must be used when removing the in-tank fuel pump or in-tank screen as the metal collar that the fittings screw to are fitted into the plastic tank and ANY torque can break the metal collar seal with the plastic tank and the tank will leak with no real way of repair - a replacement tank must be sourced.

Fuel tank was out and cleaned, fuel filter and fuel pump were replaced. The fuel tank strainer in the tank was also changed. 
Car would run on ether..
Got a LH from a friend, plugged it in, and removed the injectors which were all clogged..put new injectors and it runs great now, idles, etc...
Coming back from the dead after 17 years. took her on the highway and it runs good.

Fiddling with the throttle mechanism now, the throttle cable and the gas pedal cables...its not revving all the way up, my cables are old and stretched. Tried backing out the screw at the firewall then backed out some plastic screws at the throttle mechanism by the intake...

Most important, it came back to life...was sitting in a dirt field for 17 years, towed it home a few months ago and been working at it since...

Much different than my 83 928 manual..
