This is a common question. The ZZZ is placed on the chassis ID as a placeholder until the actual destination market is identified during the factory assembly process. Since the body shells were market-agnostic on the way to assembly, they got the agnostic ZZZ in place of the market ID in vin positions 4-5-4. So the actual market (USA in your case) ID is included at the tab at the a-pillar at positions 4-5-6, visible through the windscreen, and again on the ID sticker placed in the driver's door jam. All of the warranty, sales docs and window sticker, plus title and registration paperwork will have the JBO, (letter O, not digit zero) as will all the body-part ID tags if you still have them. Our US-market 1989 cars also received a barcode label in the driver's door jam for PCNA transit tracking.
