Hello All,
As we often take our 88’ S4 on overnight road trips, I always try to carry a few essential hand tools and repair items along to help get us back home. Other than the obvious AAA card and a friend with a chase car, do any of you have a recommended travel list? Obviously, we can’t cover for every issue but just want to minimize the risk of walking home.
This is what I have so far.
These items have been replaced in advance simply because they were old and scary:·
New Fuel pump and filter (this car has the single external pump)·
New Clutch slave cylinder flex hose (failed once before about 25 years ago and had to walk home)·
New Radiator (old end tank failed about 25 years ago and had to walk home, tanks were replaced but now the replacements are 25 years old…)·
Battery
Tool Kit Checklist;·
Original tool kit is still in place.·
Fix a flat and tire plug kit and pump. (No idea if the original mini spare still holds air….mmm better check the air pump to see if it works…)·
Spare key (sounds silly but would be super hard to replace if you misplace Key #1)·
141 951 253B relay (LH + EZK + Fuel Pump, right?)·
Lug wrench·
Sharp utility knife for trimming hose ends. Seems like most hose breaks happen near the end so you can trim the hose back and reinstall for the ride home·
Side cutters·
Flathead and Phillips head screw drivers (good ones)·
Needle nose vise grips·
Parallel adjustable wrench (the combo metric / SAE size one)·
Multimeter·
Tie wraps.·
Racer Tape·
Disposable gloves
