I am new to this club and hope to find it a friendly and helpful one.
Last summer I replaced the large o ring that goes on the air flow meter before it connects to the plenum. I also replaced the vacuum lines on the passenger side of the engine. Before I did this the car started fine and ran fine. After, the car will not start! If I disconnect the air flow meter the car will start but runs about 2k rpm and blows a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust pipe. I have checked and rechecked everything I did and everything looks fine to me. I thought that maybe the air flow meter went bad so I bought another one. No luck! At this point I don’t know what to do next.
I have a couple of questions.
Is there a fuse or relay that I should check?
Does the ECM need to recalibrate for a new air flow meter?
Is there a way of checking the air flow meter when it is off of the car?
In the event that I did not connect one or more of the vacuum lines correctly would it cause the car to only start when the air flow meter is disconnected?
Any other ideas or suggestions?
