I am looking at a 1988S4 and the vin# indicates it is a 5 Speed and it is, however the window sticker indicates a 4 Speed automatic.
Can anyone shed any light on this situation?
I really like the car and was getting ready to purchase when I discovered this issue.

Thanks for any help.

I hate to say it - but.... did you get in and check it out? I would also seriously doubt someone converted from 5 speed to Auto, and possibly VIN was read wrong?

At the rear of the car, you should find the options label near the tank access closeout cover. See if the options correspond to the vehicle. If so, the factory likely made an error on the window sticker.

It happens.
