Steering wheel column adjustment help

Hi all,
I'm trying to repair my steering wheel so that it raises and lowers properly. I can't keep the tension on the release handle. It just kind of drop down. I've looked at diagrams and been fiddling with it this afternoon. Here are a few photos of what I'm trying to do. If someone has a photo of how it should be that would be helpful.
