Transmission leak was created by sgfung
I have a 89' S4 with about 86,000 miles. It has a slow transmission leak. A Porsche mechanic told me that it is a torque converter seal issue, and he recommends just re-fill transmission fluid periodically because of costs of repair. Any suggestion from anyone as to whether it is a common problem for the S4, and whether i should get this repaired? Thanks.

Very common, and my advice would be the same. In order to change that $10.00 part, you will have 15-18 hours of labor. You have to pull the exhaust, suspension, and the transmission to replace it. Then when you are in there you might as well do the carrier bearings, torque tube bearings. Some say you might as well redo the pump seals and other things.

Mine has been leaking a drip here and there for 5 years and will change it when I put in a new torque tube.
