928 Timing Belt Round vs Square Question was created by JohnnyDiesel
I have a 1982 928 base model, 4.5L v8 engine, and upon inspection found that it has a round tooth timing belt and gears. Will the 1983 belt (round tooth of course) work on this engine? Clearly the previous owner changed the original set up sometime in the past, and i need to order a new one due to age. Since the 82 is the 4.5L and the 83 is 4.7L, i just need to clarify whether the belts are compatible. Thanks!

There are only two types of 928 timing belts, square-tooth and round-tooth, for all model years (several brands, but only two types). If your car has been converted to the later round-tooth belt, that is what you need. The physical size of the basic engine (other than the width of the cylinder heads) never changed.
