1990 GT Passenger Window stuck open

be very careful of the current if you use a batt charger......use trickle charge to start.

Well, I bit the bullet and pulled the passenger door panel off. Actually alot easier than I expected. I put jumper wires directly onto the two wire lugs on the window motor, & applied 12v/2a from my trickle charger. I GOT NOTHING! So I am thinking my motor is either failed, or needs to be broken down and cleaned internally.

The million dollar question... How do I get the motor out? My window is stuck in the fully down (open) position. I cannot see how all the gears go together, back inside the door. I am afraid to start unbolting the motor, not knowing how it all links up to the lifter mechanism inside. I have not been able to find a decent guide anywhere on this one, on this forum, Rennlist or anywhere on the web. The 928 Factory Manuals don't even discuss anything about working on the inside of the doors.

Does anyone know where a decent procedure for replacing a window motor on a late model (1990) 928 can be found?

Dewayne needs to do a write up on this for sure! Lots of folks need to do this. I have seen it discussed somewhere (probably on RL) and while it didn't sound like it was a REALLY difficult task, it did sound fiddly...

Keep us posted and at least now you can quit chasing other stuff and if push comes to shove have just that done and save money with a mechanic keeping him from chasing stuff as well...

Did you attempt smacking the motor with a rubber mallet while you had power to it? It may actually be better that the glass is down for removing the motor and regulator. Trust me.. This is far easier of a task than on later cars. For examplea, a late 90s GM car. With all of the "security" stuff in the way that's made to the door shell, it is practically impossible. Give it a whirl. It's really not that bad. I wish I could explain the job better but it is difficult to put into words. If you need a motor, I may have an extra.

Got the motor out. Everything was corroded and green. Pulled it apart and cleaned all with electrical cleaner and a wire brush. All back together, but still doesn't do anything. It won't hardly turn by hand, before or after cleaning. I am ordering a replacement this AM. But everyone sells only Motor and Transmission combos. Since my transmission is still in the door and hooked up to everything, it would sure be a lot easier to just put the new motor on my old transmission. Is that a good idea, or should I not break the seal on the new Motor/Transmission pair? If not, I gotta try to figure out how the whole transmission assembly disconnects up in there. Hard to see anything!

Id buy the motor with transmission then remove the transmission and install new motor in your door with stock components.

Take the time to ensure all pivot points are lubed before installing the door panel etc.

Just checked 928 Int........they sell the window motor seperate new and used.
