Repairing passenger power seat switch

Please give us an exact description of what works and what doesn't...

I tried the easy way - bought the $140 switch and cut the electrical connectors and connected the new switch to the existing wiring. None of the controls work - I cannot move the seat forward or back, as well raise or lower the front of the seat. The other controls for the rear of the seat are fine as well as the heater. I tried to connect the brown and red wires to the front motor and all I succeed in doing is popping the 30 amp fuse! I hate the idea of dismounting the seat, what a job!

I think it is time to check a manual so that it is hooked up right and then you will see if anything else is wrong.
There use to be a free one on the web but its not working now.
I bought the CD and then wait till I saw a set of manuals for a good price.

Do you hear the seat motor running? If so, the problem might be a disconnected drive cable. If the motor doesn't run, do you hear any slight noise that might indicate that the motor is trying to run? If so, the seat may be jammed.

If the seat is jammed, try to see if the seat is crooked - that is, if one side is ahead of the other. If so, push hard to try to straighten the seat while someone pushes the switch.

There should be holes in the plastic shield on the bottom of the front of the seat. Check the tool kit for a tool with a hex end. Put it in the holes, and try to manually move the seat fore/aft. If you can move the seat, you can get to the attach bolts.

You can usually get a hand under the seat to the drive cables. Make sure that they are attached on the ends.

Let us know what you find. We need to know whether the problem is no power to the motors, a jammed seat, or disconnected cables.

Taking the seat out will be somewhat difficult if you can manually move it, and very difficult if you can't...

For future reference and to avoid paying the Porsche $140 price on the non memory switches.
1) The non memory switches are available OEM - direct from the manufacturer and cutting out the Porsche mark up. Readily available and circa $100.
2) If you are willing to splice in the wires it is far easier to buy the memory seat switches which are considerably cheaper at $42 each. The plug is different so splicing is required.
