PK tensioner with or without air pump was created by ctepley
I am about to order a water pump and timing belt tensioner for my 83 928S. I am still unsure if I need a tensioner with or without the air pump. I do not have any issues with passing emission tests as we have none here in Minnesota. There is quite a difference in price and I want to make sure I get the correct tensioner. Thanks for any help.

Some of the older cars divert the fresh air into the heads/exhaust ports in lieu of the air cleaner housing or cats.
Pretty well covered above otherwise- the air pipes often get square bearings in the pulley over time, especially if the belt was run over-tightened. So there is a liability for future replacement cost. For deletion, it's mainly a question of what you end up plugging but as already described not likely to be an adverse effects from doing so.

I deleted the air pump in my 90 S4. Just welded the pipe shut on the cats and called it good. Then I used the no air pump bracket for the PK Tensioner. It's all good now.

I kept the air pump on my 86.5, it is too intact to start removing components.
