membership for a friend

I am with James on this one - while I applaud any effort to increase membership I see this idea transforming into another job for someone who already has to much to do - leaving diminishing returns.

The idea of being able to gift a membership to a friend is good but monitoring the results is the task.

The "biggest bang for the buck" as I see it is to increase membership via local events. Getting known 928 owners to attend events and then to get them to join the OC is a full time job in itself. James and I are lucky in that there is a large group of 928 owners in our home State, however only a small percentage are OC members.

James needs another job like he needs to import another GTS from Europe

As a 928 vendor I see hundreds and hundreds of 928 owners who have never heard of the 928 Owners Club or Rennlist for that matter. Laura (928sRus Office Manager) and I have been looking at a way to add a flyer, to every package we send out, which extols the virtues of 928 OC membership. This is particularly important for International 928 owners. If I can get them to push the OC at their own events and they see the reward in getting sponsorship to further their event we could increase membership 5 fold.

We also need to have this forum as “THE” 928 forum where everyone in the 928 World visits for information et al.
I spend countless hours on all the other forums around the World and the 928 community cries out for a 928 central forum.
We need to concentrate our efforts on achieving that goal. This is happening already and I see progress.

As for monitoring, if we get another volunteer, I could easily add another field to the website form where the referring member could be listed, and then have the new volunteer copied, so he/she could track it. Of course any form mailed into James would not be seen, so the results would not be 100%

I believe James already has a volunteer that is calling new members, so the task of tracking might be done by that person.

I think have an outreach coordinator is perhaps what is needed to received the tracking information, and also to reach out to the many 928 owners that haven't heard of the 928 OC (as indicated in your post).

Roger, that was VERY WELL SAID, and I think 928 cents worth, not 5. The only other job I need is a PAYING ONE!

I think we are making great progress right now and we just need to keep the momentum up. I had 25 people renew memberships in the last 4 days (thanks Jim for sending out the reminder!) and 2 new members join today already. So things are moving forward!

We are getting the Roadside assistance program up and running (this is completely unique) and of course the Technical forum is about to take a HUGE leap forward with all of Dwayne's hard work and documentation!

I think we are on the right track and encouraging friends to join is the way we are going to keep it up. If that needs to go as far as gifting a friend a membership then that is an individual call for sure but I certainly don't have a problem with it...I just don't see that it needs to be a "formal" program or even one that needs to be tracked per se.

Yes, I have Ray Aleksic (another good Canadian member) placing calls to all new members to welcome them and remind them of this forum and the benefits of membership!

When I began visiting 928 forums, I was surprised to find that this one wasn't the most visited or the consensus "928 forum." In my opinion, it should be. We're the 928 Owners Club. Of course, our forum should be "the forum." Well said, Roger. I hope our forum can develop just as you describe.
