GREAT post. I bet I read that article as a "gear-head" in Michigan when I was 17.
The speeds they quote are probably about right for an '83 4.7 5 speed. Prior to my 928, I drove a '92 VW Corrado SLC, and my best time at the drag strip in Bithlo, Florida, outside of Orlando was 14.97@93.25.
To put that in perspective, my '85 928S2 turned a 13.86@105.86 back in 2001 at Gainesville speedway, with nothing more than 928 International's Borla exhaust.
Old Corvettes don't die, they just get crushed. You can buy a running '83 928 these days for $4000, and a running '84 Corvette for the same money. The chevy might use less gas, but it WAY more difficult to climb into. I'd still buy the 928-
