Hi 928 people, I own a 93' 928 manual since 2000. Before that I had an 85' auto. I didn't join earlier because it seems most events are on the West Coast, I'm in New Jersey. I hope California roads are better than here.
My car needs some work now so I figured I'd better get some references. I'm sure everyone knows handing over your car to mechanic you don't know is traumatic. The feeling gets worse as the car gets older and more precious. I was wondering if other members feel that a Porsche dealer is the best for repair. I'm told the timing belt and water pump service is a necessity so I need to do that as well as a clutch.

I believe you will get very few recommendations for Porsche Dealers, if for nothing else than the cost. In NJ you should be able to find someone. Timing belt and clutch is not too out of the ordinary. You might check the Roadside assistance tab and discuss with someone in your area.

I feel the same way the dealer cost is ridiculous and they may just screw it up anyway. I would rather do it myself if I had the time I looked over the procedure and I see that it requires a lot of meticulous care.

Hi There:
I have had my 86.5 serviced by Evandrotech motors in LIC NY. The owner has mentioned he has another shop in NJ and may be permanently doing all his business at the NJ location. He's serviced multiple 928 since i've been using his shop (5 years now). He's a bit laid back so you may have to push if you want things done quickly. His shop services mostly European exotic cars.

If you don't mind driving the distance to just north of Philadelphia, Stan Kolen works at an auto shop called K&R tire services, and he is one of the handful of top 928 mechanics in the country. We should be happy with having Stan so close to us (within 1-2 hrs). I only have him to work on my 928s. Look him up. You won't regret it.
