Why does the central warning light come on?

I have a 1986.5 Porsche 928 S. Occasionally my central warning light comes on with no other warnings displayed on my dash. I was wondering what could be causing this. Is it possible it could be low washer fluid or coolent? Any ideas? Many other warnings have an accompanying warning display on my dash so it cannot be too many other conditions causing this.

You should see the following:

BELT TEN
TAIL LAMP
STOP LAMP

WASH FLUID
PARKING LIGHTS
COOLANT

and on the other side:

BRAKE FLUID
BRAKE PAD

PARK BRAKE
ENGINE OIL

That's for a USA car, from my US 1985 owners manual. I own an '85S2, or ROW car, so I have the actual German language owners manual that came with the car as well.

If you don't see the lights above, you get to pull the pod! [tons of fun!], and then you get to put the instrument cluster back in the pod....[300 million tons of fun!] A ritual of ownership of the 928 car. Let me know if you need any help, I've probably pulled mine 50 times, I know all the tricks.

Need a little more info as it could help diagnosis
1 - does it go out by itself or can you push the button an reset it?
2 - if it does go out by itself, what are conditions then?
3 - does it flicker or stay on steady
4 - no exclamation point light on the dash? (just verifying)
5 - are you sure all your normal warning light work? (like when you turn on the key)

Check the owners manual too, that light will come on for multiple things but can only be reset for what they consider to be less major issues. Mine would come on along with a brake pressure warning light and could not be reset without disconnecting the battery for example.

It will also come on with your parking brake on, along with the exclamation point warning light.

Better to be safe than sorry...no black tape...it is there for a reason!

That does happen from time to time on these cars but I vote for burned out light...

Keep in mind there are other things that can happen to set the "!" off! Low oil pressure will set that off, I think low voltage sometimes sets it off as well. So, if you don't see a lit icon then look to see if you have low OP, low fuel, low votage or high coolant temp...

Ditto! - take the time to investigate more to eliminate some things, then go from there. Lots of possibilities
